meghan & stephen ~ dash of humour

The Couple

All taking place at The Oakwood At The Ryther in the heart of North Yorkshire, Meghan & Stephen’s wedding is up there as one of my favourites. Two dentists falling in love and making everyone around them fall in love with them too. Meghan has now taken up wedding photography which makes filming this wedding even more special, knowing we’ve been chosen by a fellow professional.

Meghan’s wedding dress was a shining example of subtle, underrated with an extreme attention to detail. It’s always such a joy to film wedding dresses that hold so much detail and style. The same can be said for Stephen’s suite attire, traditionally modern with a flair of style.

Meghan & Stephen’s Wedding Day Plans

All of Meghan’s & Stephen’s plans were taking place at The Oakwood At The Ryther in North Yorkshire. This meant that we had all the opportunity in the morning to plan out the specifics of where we were going to shoot as well as filming all of those meticulously thought out details from the ceremony layout and the reception table layout. It’s always so important to grabs these parts of the day so we can fully show and give context to the day when editing the film.

With both groom and bridal prep taking place in the same location, I was able to get a varied and emotive shots from both sides without being too time sensitive.

The ceremony took place in the beautiful barn area of The Oakwood at The Ryther with the stunning fairly lights that drape down the back wall. It was a very personalised ceremony with an emotional reaction from Stephen as he saw is bride-to-be walking down the isle.

The rest of the evening took place in The Old Grain Store at The Oakwood. One of the great moments was the speech from Meghan’s American dad who had picked up and delivered perfectly with British wit. That combined with his American sensitivities delivered a humourous and emotional speech, all leading into the personal feel that Meghan & Stephen were aiming for.

The culmination of the night, and always my favour point, was of course the party. Energy, energy, energy; that summerises Meghan & Stephen’s night time wedding party. We love to film the chaos and excitement of this time of night, and just as on Meghan and Stephen’s wedding night, we often find ourselves being hooked into the celebrations, creating a much more involved and personal touch to the film.

My wedding videography approach

My main aim as a wedding videography is to always capture everything in the most authentic and natural way possible and then re-tell that authenticity into a stylish, natural, cinematic film with a classic cinema flair. I always have this in mind when choosing which lens to shoot on, how the audio of the day can integrate into the film, the locations that I’m shooting in, the framing of each shot, the emotion of the couple and even the music I will choose in the edit so all of it comes together to create a full cinematic experience.

I knew Meghan and Stephen liked to party, so when approaching their day I know to capture that energy and excitement leading into the night time. A perfect example of this is how I shot the couples shoot. Both Monkey Mole Photographer & I knew to keep Meghan and Stephen moving with lots of energy as we know what they would give back to us.

Once I have captured all of these story-telling elements, I aim to make sure that I express this story in the most cinematic and engaging way I can. However, this doesn’t mean we become heavy handed on your day, leaving a heavy footprint, quite the opposite. We always let the day happen as it happens, taking away any element of staging to allow those natural moments happen which always leads to much ore beautiful and emotional moments. It’s with this I create a mini-movie, establishing people, place, feeling and momentum with a style of elegance that feels like a short piece of cinema with the couple as the main characters.
